An
area of low pressure will move over the Intermountain West and the
central Plains on Thursday, while a separate low pressure system will
inch across the Northeast.
A low pressure system will continue to push eastward over the Intermountain West and the central Plains. As this system collides with a warm, muggy air mass from the Gulf of Mexico, strong to severe thunderstorms will develop over the nations midsection. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over western Oklahoma, eastern Colorado, western Kansas, western and central Nebraska, eastern Wyoming, South Dakota, southwest North Dakota and eastern Montana. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain associated with these thunderstorms will bring a threat of flash flooding to eastern Montana. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will also move across the Intermountain West, the Mississippi Valley and the western Gulf Coast.
A separate cold front will extend across the eastern Tennessee Valley, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast on Thursday. Rain and thunderstorms will accompany this system and move across the northeastern corner of the country. An onshore flow from the Atlantic will also bring thunderstorms to the Southeast.
Out west, rainy weather will linger over northern California, Oregon and Washington. High pressure will keep conditions warm and dry across Desert Southwest, as temperatures are forecast to jump into the triple digits across the region. .
