Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,June 23,2014
A low
pressure system will continue moving eastward across the nation on
Monday, increasing the chance of showers and thunderstorms across the
Eastern Valleys. The system will continue pushing a cold front eastward,
which will trigger more showers and thunderstorms from the Great Lakes
through the Gulf Coast. Severe storms are not anticipated along this
front, but some storms may produce some large hail and strong winds.
Expect rainfall totals to range around 1 inch, with up to 2 inches
possible in areas of severe thunderstorm development. Strongest storm
activity is anticipated in the afternoon and evening hours across the
Deep South as ample Gulf moisture will aid in thunderstorm development.
The cold front sweeping towards the East Coast will also bring cooler
temperatures to the Eastern states. Expect mild temperatures for the
region with highs in the 70s for the Northeast and highs in the mid-80s
across the Mid-Atlantic states.
Behind this system, another weaker trough of low pressure will move off the Central Rockies and into the Central Plains. Due to prevailing warm and humid conditions, this will allow for a few showers and thunderstorms to pop up across eastern Colorado and into Kansas. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe with strong winds, damaging winds, and periods of heavy rainfall. Further West, expect dry and warm temperatures to continue for the West Coast as a ridge of high pressure remains the dominant weather feature. Near-normal high temperatures are expected with highs in the 70s along the coast to 80s inland, and reaching into the lower 100s in the desserts.
