Severe thunderstorms and the risk of large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes will threaten areas across Kentucky and Tennessee Friday night.
At least three people died Friday as a result of storms and flooding in Alabama and Kentucky, authorities said.
"Low pressure and an associated cold front will tap into a warm, moist air-mass over the Ohio and Tennessee valleys this evening, sparking multiple rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms," AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Brian Edwards said.
These storms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts of greater than 60 mph, destructive hail to the size of golf balls and even a couple of tornadoes.
The greatest tornado threat lies across much of Kentucky and Tennessee. Damaging wind gusts of greater than 60 mph will be the primary threat there through the evening hours. The severe thunderstorm threat will push eastward into areas of Georgia and the Carolinas later in the night, Edwards said.
"Storms now firing up across northern and central Mississippi are going to track toward cities like Tupelo, Yazoo City, and perhaps near Jackson through the evening hours," he added.
