Heartwrenching photos are coming out of Nepal after a large 7.8-magnitude earthquake shook the highly-populated region Saturday.
The
massive quake, which originated outside the capital Kathmandu, was the
worst tremor to hit the poor South Asian nation in over 80 years. It was
so powerful that it was felt all across the northern part of
neighboring India, Bangladesh, Tibet and Pakistan.
Just when
people thought the threat had passed, a powerful 6.7-magnitude
aftershock on Sunday sent people fleeing into the streets once again.
The area has been rocked with several strong aftershocks since the
initial quake on Saturday.

As
of Monday more than 4,000 people are confirmed dead, and emergency
responders said that number will likely continue to climb as they sift
through the rubble. Nepalese authorities also estimate that 183
buildings were destroyed and that an additional 2,083 buildings
sustained partial damage.
Elsewhere, the quake triggered an avalanche that hit a base camp at Mount Everest. Sherpas and climbers are among the 18 dead.
A selection of photos from the devastated area can be viewed above, and be sure to check back frequently as more images come in.
