Live Updates: Tornado Watch Issued In Texas, Louisiana; Severe Outbreak Underway

A severe weather outbreak, including the threat of some tornadoes, is underway and will continue through Saturday across parts of the Plains and South.
Here are the latest impacts.
  • The day's first tornado watch has been posted until 6 p.m. CDT for parts of extreme east Texas and southwest Louisiana, including the cities of Lake Charles and Lafayette, Louisiana.
  • Local flash flooding was reported on the north side of the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area around midday Friday.
  • Flash flooding was reported early Friday morning in Rio Grande City, Texas with more than 20 streets flooded.
Here are a few forecast highlights:
  • Severe thunderstorms will likely produce damaging winds, very large hail, flash flooding and tornadoes in the central and southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley on Friday and Friday night.
  • The greatest risk for tornadoes will be in central and eastern Kansas as well as north, central and northeast Texas.
  • The threat of severe thunderstorms pushes east Friday night and Saturday and will stretch from the Ohio Valley into the Tennessee Valley and parts of the South.
