Week to End Damp, Dreary From DC to NYC

Following a pleasant midweek across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, damp and dreary conditions will settle in for a couple of days lasting through Friday.
Two disturbances, one aloft and another along the coast, will help to bring a period of unsettled conditions to the mid-Atlantic and Northeast Thursday and Friday.
Temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s and the sunshine that was experienced at midweek across the region will be replaced with clouds, showers and highs only in the 50s to low 60s by Friday.
"The weather has certainly been up and down in the Northeast this April, and that trend is expected to continue," said AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Evan Duffey.
As typical this time of the year, a roller-coaster weather pattern can bring large swings in the weather over the course of a few days.
Washington, D.C., Baltimore, New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, and Allentown, Pennsylvania will experience a sharp turnaround in weather conditions as the end of the week approaches.

A disturbance lurking along the Eastern Seaboard will bring a persistent wind off the Atlantic waters that will send cool, moist air across coastal areas Thursday into Friday.
The heaviest and steadiest rain with this disturbance will remain off the coast, eliminating the threat of a washout either day. However, clouds, drizzle and showers will occur across the region late Thursday and into Friday.

Farther inland across the Appalachians and mid-Atlantic, an upper-level disturbance will bring the risk for heavier showers and thunderstorms Thursday.
Although these storms are not expected to be severe, cold air aloft will provide enough instability for quick drenching downpours and small hail.

Areas from New York City northward will likely squeak out one more dry day on Thursday, although clouds will stream in for the second half of the day. Any outdoor activities scheduled across the I-95 corridor, such as baseball games or outdoor picnics, should be okay during the day Thursday; however, there will be a need for a sweatshirt or light jacket with temperatures in the low 60s.
Folks will want to keep those sweatshirts and jackets handy for Friday as well. A thick cloud cover will help to bring the coolest day across the region this week. There will also be a risk for a few showers across the region.
Temperatures will likely remain in the 50s across New England with 60s near the Appalachians.
"Temperatures on Friday will be around 10 degrees below normal," said Duffey.
If possible, outdoor activities should be put on hold until the weekend. The coastal disturbance is expected to pull away from the coast on Saturday.
"It looks as though the worst of the cool and damp comes late week, allowing for a fantastic weekend as repayment for any discomfort Thursday and Friday," said Duffey.
