Rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms have caused flooding across parts of southeastern China over the past few weeks, and that pattern is going to continue into next week.
The combination of a stalled frontal boundary and a powerful area of low pressure will lead to days of heavy rainfall and a widespread flooding threat for much of eastern and southeastern China.
On Friday, the threat area will encompass areas from Guangxi and Guangdong provinces northeastward through Zhejiang province at risk for flooding.
Through Friday night, rainfall amounts of 50-125 mm (2-5 inches) are expected across eastern Guangxi, much of Guangdong and southern parts of Hunan and Jiangxi provinces.

However, AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Eric Wanenchak expects localized rain amounts of 125 to 250 mm (5-10 inches) through Friday.
One reporting station in Jiangmen received 65.6 mm (2.58 inches) of rain in one hour Thursday evening.
On Saturday and Sunday, a cold front will press south and east across all of eastern China bringing another round of heavy rain, but also the threat of thunderstorms with damaging winds.
A general 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) of additional rain will fall over the weekend from Guangxi and Guangdong through Zhejiang. Total rainfall can exceed 350 mm (1 foot) in some areas, with the greatest threat across the higher terrain of eastern Guangxi and Guangdong.
Cities which may experience flooding rainfall include Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Ganzhou, Quanzhou and Fuzhou.

While the heaviest rain will remain to the south and west of Shanghai, downpours are possible from Friday night into Sunday morning.
These rounds of heavy rainfall, combined with above-normal rainfall during the past several weeks, will cause the risk for widespread flooding across the region.
The threat for flooding will likely continue into next week as another potent storm system will bring the potential for more heavy rainfall to much of eastern China.
