A large storm will negatively impact travel around New York City due mostly to heavy rain and wind, but it will perhaps also be from a freezeup at the tail end.
The storm began as light rain Tuesday afternoon in most areas.
Much of the balance of the storm will bring heavy rain and the risk of flash and urban flooding, slow travel on the highways and broadening flight delays.
Water building up on roadways will increase the risk of vehicles hydroplaning while traveling at highway speeds. Wind-driven rain will greatly reduce visibility.
The heavy rain, wind and accompanying low-hanging clouds could lead to lengthy delays at the city's major airports.
The strongest winds late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning could lead to downed trees, power outages and minor property damage. South to southeast winds can gust between 50 and 65 mph during this time.
There is also a concern for coastal flooding as the strong winds push water shoreward for a brief time later Tuesday night into Wednesday midday. This will be mostly a problem where the onshore winds occur locally during the high tide cycle.
