A cold frontal boundary stretched from the Intermountain West to the
Great Lakes on Thursday, while a cold front skimmed the coast of
southern California.
Light snow fell across the Great Lakes and parts of the Northeast on
Thursday as a low pressure system moved across Michigan. States that
experienced snowy conditions included Michigan, Pennsylvania and New
York. Caroga Lake, N.Y., reported a midday total of 3.0 inches of snow,
while Halcott Center, N.Y., reported a midday total of 2.50 inches of
snow. Below average temperatures also moved across the Eastern Seaboard
on Thursday, especially along the Great Lakes and into New England.
Mount Washington, N.H., recorded a morning low of -7 degrees with a
windchill factor of -47 degrees. Freeze warnings were also issued along
northern Florida and Georgia during Thursday morning as chilly
conditions swept across the Southeast. Southern Florida stayed warm and
muggy, as Opa Locka, Fla., recorded a midday high of 75 degrees.
The northern Plains and the upper Midwest also experienced very cold,
blustery conditions on Thursday due to a cold front over the region.
Crane Lake, Minn., recorded a morning low of 1 degree, while Flag
Island, Minn., also recorded a morning low of 1 degree. Light snow
showers also fell in parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
The western third of the country stayed clear of wet weather, although
showers began to approach the southern California coast. Temperatures
were pleasant throughout the southern California and Arizona deserts, as
Thermal, Calif., recorded a midday high of 71 degrees.
