Heavy Rain to Snarl Thanksgiving Travel in Philly

Heavy rain threatens to cause a nightmare for travelers in Philadelphia on Wednesday.
While Philadelphia will escape a snowstorm this week, wind-driven rain still threatens to cause a nightmare for Thanksgiving travelers on Wednesday.
After a dry Monday, the storm that brought a wintry mess to Oklahoma City and Dallas over the weekend will turn toward the Northeast on Tuesday.
A bit of rain will reach Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon, but the rain will intensify Tuesday night and soak the city through Wednesday.
While the rain could end as a little snow Wednesday night, substantial snow will instead center on the Appalachians and St. Lawrence Valley.

The rain will generally amount to 2 to 4 inches, which could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Even where flooding does not ensue, the soaking rain threatens to severely snarl Thanksgiving travel for those both on the ground and in the air.

Motorists will be forced to slow down as water ponding on roadways threatens to heighten the risk of vehicles hydroplaning at highway speeds. Downpours will greatly reduce visibility.
The heavy rain and accompanying low-hanging clouds could lead to lengthy delays at the Philadelphia International Airport.

There is also a concern for coastal flooding along at the New Jersey shore on Wednesday as gusty winds develop.
The rain will leave Philadelphia Wednesday night with a dry and brisk day set to unfold for Thanksgiving Day.
