Weather Underground Forecast for Friday,August 12,2016
The Eastern half of the country will see a wet day on Friday as a low pressure system moves into the Great Lakes and a system continues pushing in tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.
In the North, a strong low pressure system moves into the Great Lakes from the upper Midwest and creates a strong cold front that stretches over the Midwest, through the Mississippi River Valley and into the southern Plains. Storms associated with this system will have a slight risk of severe thunderstorm development with the main threats being strong, damaging winds for the Northeastern states and periods of heavy rainfall for much of the Midwest. Flooding will accompany this system in areas of heavy rainfall. At the same time, tropical moisture lingers over the Gulf Coast with heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms persisting from Louisiana through the panhandle of Florida. This area has seen heavy rainfall and flooding since Sunday, so flooding concerns are likely to persist through the weekend
Behind this activity in the southern Plains, a trough of low pressure moves eastward and off the southern Rockies, bringing moisture and energy to the southern Plains. Expect heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms to develop for northern Texas and across Oklahoma. Further west, high pressure maintains dry conditions for the West Coast with monsoonal moisture allowing for afternoon showers and thunderstorms to persist for the Four Corners.
