Gusty storms to wash northeastern US with flooding rain on Tuesday

Thunderstorm activity will ramp up in the northeastern United States on Tuesday.
While Monday night will feature a break from the stormy weather for most of the Northeast, spotty heavy storms will begin to creep northward into portions West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
A widespread batch of drenching rain and gusty storms will hit the region on Tuesday.

The storms will bring the risk of isolated flash flooding, sporadic power outages and travel delays in the Interstate 80, I-81 and I-90 corridors.
Storms have been popping up on a near daily basis amid stifling heat and humidity in the Northeast since last week.
"A slow-moving front will pull plentiful tropical moisture northward from the Gulf Coast early in the week," AccuWeather Meteorologist Ed Vallee said.
The persistent downpours have departed much of flood-weary Louisiana. However, one batch of storms will bring a risk of flash flooding to parts of Texas and Arkansas into Tuesday. Another batch of heavy rain and isolated flash flooding will swing through part of the Midwest into Monday night.

Due to the ample amounts of heat and moisture across the region, there could be some stronger storms across eastern Ohio, southern and eastern New York, Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon. Strong storms can reach the western parts of Connecticut and Massachusetts during the evening, Locally damaging winds will be a threat across these areas.
Storms will likely be more spotty in nature in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware, with the most drenching downpours expected to fall along a path from the eastern Great Lakes to New England during Tuesday.
"Some of the downpours will be capable of producing several inches of rain in only a few hours and inundating low-lying and poor drainage areas," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Andy Mussoline said.
Downpours and locally gusty storms near major airport hubs, including in the Boston and New York City area, could cause delays.

Motorists should prepare for slower-than-normal commutes and reduced visibility from heavy rain along area interstates.
While being a nuisance to outdoor plans and travel, the rain will continue to be beneficial from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York state, northern New Jersey and New England. Much of this area has been abnormally dry or experiencing drought conditions this summer, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
As the front exits the region during the middle of the week, the coverage, intensity and frequency of storms is expected to lessen.
Temperatures will be trimmed by several degrees but humidity levels will remain high, especially along much of the I-95 corridor.
The risk of spotty thunderstorms will continue and the coverage of storms may increase again late in the week.

Thankfully, we are finally getting the much needed rain. I feel bad for those states that have been inundated with flooding, etc.

We've been fortunate not to receive much rain at all so far. A few sprinkles here and there 35 miles SW of Houston. But parts of Houston Metro were deluged last night.

what drenching storms we haven't had one the entire week, were lucky to see a drop of rain by the end of the summer
