The storm system responsible for drenching showers and thunderstorms across parts of the Missouri and Tennessee valleys will continue its eastward march into the Southeast and mid-Atlantic through Friday.
Although thunderstorms associated with this system did not reach severe strength, many locations experienced heavy downpours, leading to standing water on roadways and flash flooding.
The threat for heavy, severe thunderstorms will continue into Thursday night.
Charleston, West Virginia, and surrounding areas will be impacted by heavy thunderstorms that will bring the threat for downpours, flash flooding and reduced visibility.
Travel along Interstates 64, 75 and 81 will be difficult at times due to torrential downpours.
"While there will be thunderstorms that can produce heavy rain and flooding, the environment will not be conducive for storms to produce damaging winds. That will be a threat in the Southeast where it will be warmer and more unstable," Accuweather Meteorologist Mike Doll said.
The Southeast will be the second area impacted by thunderstorms later Thursday.
As the afternoon progresses, showers and thunderstorms will work toward the coastline. Raleigh, North Carolina, and Norfolk, Virginia, will begin to see impacts from these storms by Thursday evening.
The second area of the concern sits in the South, as thunderstorms have the potential to become strong if not severe.
A cold front will advance through the region, allowing thunderstorms to blossom along it.

Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, as well as Atlanta, Georgia, are expected to see strong thunderstorms through the evening as torrential downpours and gusty winds blow across the area.
While severe weather usually diminishes in intensity after the sun goes down, the threat for severe storms will continue eastward into Montgomery, Alabama and Augusta, Georgia, into Thursday night.
As this storm system approaches the coast on Friday, severe weather will once again develop along the Southeast coast from Virginia Beach into the panhandle of Florida.
Elsewhere across the United States Thursday, there will be a risk for severe weather across the northern Plains and upper Midwest.
