So far this summer, southwestern Australia has seen several heat waves. Yet another one will develop early next week across the region.
According to Accuweather.com Meteorologist Jason Nicholls, "Heat should peak across southwestern Australia on Tuesday and Wednesday with Perth getting close to 38 C (100 F) both days."
Perth often has its hottest weather just before the passage of a cold front and this will likely be the case this time as well.
"The overall drier- and warmer-than-normal pattern looks to continue through at least the first week in February," Nicholls continued. "After the heat early next week, there can be some needed rainfall on Thursday and Friday as a cold front moves through. However, rain amounts look light and coverage spotty."
Since Dec. 1, Perth has averaged 1.1 C (2 F) above normal with only 29 percent of normal rainfall.
The Bureau of Meteorology has severe fire danger warnings in effect across northern Western Australia for Saturday. As the heat expands southward, it is likely that these warnings move southward along with it.
