A low pressure system will bring major impacts to the East Coast on Monday, while a separate system will usher wet weather across the Southwest.
An area of low pressure will slide across the Tennessee Valley and the Ohio Valley. This system will usher snow showers across the region, as 2.0 to 6.0 inches of snow will accumulate across the Ohio Valley. Mixed precipitation will develop over the Tennessee Valley, creating hazardous road conditions for the area. As this system shifts eastward, it will tap into moisture over the Mid-Atlantic. Heavy snow showers and gusty winds will impact the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England. Snow accumulations are expected to exceed one foot over portions of southern New England. Winter storm watches are in place for a large span of the northern Mid-Atlantic and the New England states. In addition, rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop over the southern MId-Atlantic and parts of the Southeast.
Meanwhile, a much weaker system will trigger light snow showers over the upper Midwest. The Plains and the Intermountain West will stay relatively clear of precipitation. Temperatures are forecast to be 20 to 30 degrees above normal over the central third of the country.
Out west, a Pacific system will skim across southern California on Monday. This system will bring much needed rain to the Desert Southwest. High pressure will keep weather conditions calm over the Pacific Northwest.
