Powerful Santa Ana winds battered the Los Angeles area Friday night and well into Saturday, toppling power lines and trees across the area.
According to weather.com meteorologist Linda Lam, there have been numerous wind gusts over 55 mph Saturday, including 79 mph and 89 mph gusts near Julian and San Fernando, Calfornia.
"High wind warnings and wind advisories remain in effect through Sunday morning for portions of southern California," Lam said.
"Sustained winds will be in the 25 to 40 mph range and gusts up to 80 mph remain possible through Saturday. Winds will become less widespread and weaken Saturday night but will remain strong into Sunday morning."
Those gusts brought down a quarter-mile-long stretch of power lines in Fontana, California, Saturday morning, NBC Los Angeles reports.
Additional power lines were brought down across the greater Los Angeles area, resulting in more than 9,000 power outages in the San Fernando Valley area Saturday morning, the San Luis Obispo Tribune reports.
In the early morning hours of Saturday a tree fell on a gas line in Rancho Cucamonga, California, leading to the evacuation of 24 apartments, NBC Los Angeles reports.
