A low pressure system will continue to affect the Northeast on Wednesday, while a separate system will develop over the upper Midwest.
A powerful low pressure system will move northeastward over the coast of northern New England and southeast Canada. Blizzard conditions are expected to impact the coast of Maine through the early hours of Wednesday morning. High pressure will settle in over the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England, bringing a quick break in wintery weather to the region. Additionally, high pressure will keep conditions calm from the southern Plains to the Southeast.
A separate area of low pressure will sink south southeastward over the northern Plains and the upper Midwest. This system will usher light to moderate snow showers over the upper Midwest and portions of the Dakotas. There will be a chance of freezing rain during the late afternoon and evening over southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, southern Michigan, northern Indiana and western Ohio.
Meanwhile, a cluster of light precipitation will shift focus from the Great Basin to the Intermountain West. A mixture of rain and snow will be possible across the Wasatch, while high elevation snow showers are expected over the central and northern Rockies. Just to the west, an onshore flow from the Pacific will bring chances of light to moderate rain to western Oregon and western Washington. A ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific will keep conditions relatively calm across the Desert Southwest on Wednesday.
