While the weather will be unsettled at times through Thursday, the Memorial Day weekend is setting up to be free of rain and generally sunny.
As warmer and more humid air briefly works into the region and cool air offers resistance over the Northeast, a zone of showers and thunderstorms will meander across northern Virginia and Maryland through Thursday.
Temperatures both days will reach 80 F or even a tad higher.
Thunderstorms that affect the area later Wednesday can be locally heavy and gusty, but a repeat of widespread torrential rainfall and flooding from last week is not likely.
For many people traveling in the region to take part in memorial ceremonies or just spending time outdoors this weekend, the vast majority of the time will be free of rain.
There is the chance of a spotty, passing shower or thunderstorm Friday afternoon and evening, but after that, sporadic rainfall is forecast to retreat to the Northeast through Monday.
Clouds that develop Saturday afternoon should stop short of producing rain with highs in the 70s.
Highs are forecast to be close to 80 F Sunday and Monday under sunshine and low humidity.
Storms that gather on Memorial Day over part of the South are forecast to hold off until the middle of next week locally.
