A magnitude-3.2 earthquake occurred Wednesday evening near Richmond, Virginia.
The trembler was reported 9:47 p.m. EDT. The epicenter was eight miles southwest of Powhatan, Virginia, with a depth of 0.7 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The earthquake was felt throughout Virginia, according to the USGS. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported on its website.
In August 2011, a magnitude-5.8 earthquake shook the Eastern Seaboard from its epicenter near Mineral, Virginia. That quake caused damage to the Washington National Cathedral and the Washington Monument.
