A cold front stretched from the southern Plains to the upper Midwest on
Monday, while a ridge of high pressure continued to dominate the eastern
third of the country.
Winter weather advisories were issued over parts of the Intermountain
West and Plains on Monday as a result of a recent cold frontal passage.
States that experienced snowy weather during the first half of Monday
included Utah and Colorado. Providence, Utah, reported a morning total
of 3.0 inches of snow, while Bountiful Bench, Utah, reported a morning
total of 3.4 inches of snow. A separate cold front stretched from
Montana to North Dakota, as light snow showers and cold conditions
pushed across the region. Yellowstone, Wyo., recorded a morning low of 3
degrees, while Big Piney, Wyo., recorded a morning low of 7 degrees.
Along the West Coast, a low pressure system ushered light showers into
western Washington and northwestern Oregon. California stayed clear of
precipitation on Monday as high pressure continued to build along the
coast.
A cold front that extended from Texas to Minnesota provided showers and
thunderstorms for the southern Plains and the upper Midwest. Grand
Marais Airport, Minn., reported a midday total of 0.93 inches of rain,
while Buffalo, Minn., reported a midday total of 0.38 inches of rain.
The Eastern Seaboard stayed clear of wet weather on Monday as a ridge of
high pressure dominated the eastern third of the country. The exception
to this was in Florida, where an onshore flow from the Atlantic
triggered scattered showers and thunderstorms.
