A ridge of high pressure kept the central and eastern thirds of the
country clear of precipitation on Sunday, while a cold front stretched
from California to the northern Plains.
Cold, wet weather persisted in the Pacific Northwest, the Intermountain
West and parts of the northern Plains on Sunday as a result of a recent
cold frontal passage. Midday temperatures ranged between the 40s and 50s
in the Pacific Northwest and northern Plains, while temperatures ranged
between the 30s and 40s in the Intermountain West. Light snow showers
occurred in parts of the Cascades and Rockies, while coastal showers
pushed across Washington and Oregon. Boise, Idaho., reported a midday
total of 0.5 inches of snow, while Oakes, N.D., reported a midday total
of 1.49 inches of rain. The Southwest avoided wet weather on Sunday, as
inland temperatures ranged between the 70s and 80s.
Spotty showers and thunderstorms pushed across parts of the southern
Plains on Sunday, but the majority of the region experienced warm, muggy
conditions. Falfurrias, Texas., recorded a midday high of 80 degrees.
The majority of the East Coast stayed clear of precipitation, although a
cold frontal boundary brought winter like temperatures to the
Northeast. Mount Washington, N.H. recorded a morning low of 8 degrees,
while Saranac Lake, N.Y., recorded a morning low of 21 degrees.
