A cold front extended from Washington to northern California on
Saturday, while a separate cold front stretched from Wisconsin to New
England.
Light showers moved across the Pacific Northwest on Saturday due to a
cold frontal boundary over the region. Spotty snow showers also pushed
across the Cascades as temperatures dropped behind the front.
Quillayute, Wash., recorded a midday total of 0.81 inches of rain. A
stationary front also lingered over the Intermountain West on Saturday,
which brought moderate rain to eastern Washington, Idaho and Montana,
and scattered snow showers to the northern Rockies. The Southwest
avoided precipitation on Saturday, although coastal fog persisted
throughout the morning and early afternoon. Temperatures ranged between
the 70s and 80s inland, as Scottsdale, Ariz., reported a midday high of
80 degrees, and Palm Springs, Calif., reported a midday high of 78
degrees.
The central U.S. stayed clear of wet weather on Saturday as a ridge of
high pressure hovered over the area. Meanwhile, a cold front pushed wet
weather into parts of the Ohio Valley and Northeast, while mixed
precipitation occurred in the early morning. Showers and thunderstorms
moved across the Eastern Seaboard on Saturday as a more extensive cold
front moved over the Atlantic. Crystal River, Fla., reported a midday
total of 2.25 inches of rain, while Mount Pleasent, S.C., reported a
midday total of 1.83 inches of rain.
