While the Atlanta area has already had its first frost of the season, the impending arctic cold could lead to snowflakes.
A significant snowstorm will not unfold in Atlanta or anywhere across the East Coast this week.
A storm could still strengthen across the western Atlantic Ocean, but should do so far enough offshore to prevent an East Coast snowstorm from unfolding.
Regardless, all the ingredients may come together for wet snowflakes to fly across the Atlanta area late Tuesday night. Any snowflakes would only make an appearance and not whiten the grass or roads.

The higher terrain of the southern Appalachians is where the snow may accumulate a few inches, potentially weighing down some tree branches.
The arctic cold bringing the possibility of snowflakes to Atlanta late Tuesday night will hold Wednesday's high temperatures to the upper 40s. Atlanta's first subfreezing temperature so far this fall may follow Wednesday night.
