The coldest air of the season is set to blast through the United Kingdom and Ireland early next week.
A low pressure system and associated cold front will bring showers to the United Kingdom and Ireland late Sunday into Monday. Behind this cold front, a very chilly air mass originating from the Arctic will spread over the region.
The colder air will reach Ireland, Scotland and Northern Ireland on Monday before arriving in Wales and England by Tuesday.
A fresh coating of snow will blanket parts of Ireland and the United Kingdom early next week.
Along with this much colder air, there will be rain and snow showers occurring across Northern Ireland, northern England and Scotland. Wintry showers will also be seen across northern and western Ireland. Any accumulating snowfall is expected to be confined to the higher terrain away from the coast on Monday and Tuesday.
For many of the areas highlighted above, this will be the first snowfall of the season.
As the cold air continues to build into the United Kingdom, winds will turn to the northeast bringing the threat for the first snowflakes of the season to London and surrounding areas from late Tuesday into Wednesday.
