An area of low pressure affected the Midwest on Saturday, while monsoonal thunderstorms developed across the Southwest.

Just to the west, monsoonal thunderstorms fired up across parts of the southern Rockies and the Desert Southwest. Excessive heat warnings were issued in western Oregon and western Washington.
