Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,August 8,2016

Expect the Southeast to see another wet day on Monday, while shower and thunderstorm activity continues across the Rockies. A low pressure system strengthens over the Southeast as it pulls moisture and energy in from the Gulf of Mexico. This will produce moderate to heavy rainfall from southern Louisiana through Tennessee and the Carolinas. Rainfall totals over 2 inches are possible in some locations, thus, expect flooding to remain a threat for the region as the soil is currently very well saturated. This slow moving and nearly stationary system could allow for storm totals to surpass 5 inches for localized areas through Tuesday night.

To the north, high pressure remains the dominant weather feature for the Northeast and the Great Lakes on Monday. This will maintain dry and mild conditions for the region. Out West, multiple troughs of low pressure continue moving through the Western states while monsoonal moisture lingers over the Four Corners. This will allow for shower and thunderstorm activity to persist for New Mexico and Colorado. But in the north, a trough of low pressure advances from the northern Rockies into the northern Plains, bringing shower and thunderstorm activity with it.

Further West, another small system moves into the Pacific Northwest, triggering a few scattered showers for western Washington and northwestern Oregon on Monday.
