Tropical Storm Kay Off the Coast of Mexico Poses No Threat to Land

August 21,2016
Tropical Storm Kay became the 11th named storm of the eastern Pacific hurricane season early Friday morning several hundred miles south of Los Cabos, Mexico.
This system will be relatively short-lived, and will have little significant impact in Baja California.
Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
  • Tropical Storm Kay is located nearly 400 miles west of the southern tip of Baja California.
  • Kay will continue moving rather slowly to the west-northwest.
  • Its center will remain off the Baja California coast.
  • Kay is not expected to strengthen, thanks to experiencing some wind shear, and its future headed toward a more stable atmosphere (not supportive of thunderstorms).
  • This system is no direct threat to Baja California, but some elevated surf is possible.
