Tropical Storm Kay became the 11th named storm of the eastern Pacific hurricane season early Friday morning several hundred miles south of Los Cabos, Mexico.
This system will be relatively short-lived, and will have little significant impact in Baja California.
Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
- Tropical Storm Kay is located just over 300 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California.
- Kay will continue moving rather slowly to the northwest.
- Its center will remain off the Baja California coast.
- Kay is not expected to strengthen much, thanks to experiencing some wind shear, and its future headed toward a more stable atmosphere (not supportive of thunderstorms). Some minor intensification is possible.
- This new system is no direct threat to Baja California, but a few bands of locally heavy rain and eventually some elevated surf are possible.
