Severe Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain Threaten Midwest Into Midweek

A cold front will push across the Midwest into Wednesday, sparking strong to severe thunderstorms in parts of the region. The storms could pack damaging wind gusts and hail, along with heavy rain which may cause flash flooding.
A thunderstorm to the northwest of Omaha, Nebraska, spawned a brief rope tornado Tuesday evening, but no damage was reported as a result of the touchdown.

Wednesday
  • Forecast: A few severe storms may develop in parts of Kansas, northwest Missouri and adjacent parts of Oklahoma and Iowa. In addition, a larger area from Michigan and Illinois to the central Plains will see general thunderstorms with locally heavy rain that could cause some pockets of flash flooding.
  • Threats: Damaging wind gusts and large hail. Flash flooding is also possible.
  • Cities: Kansas City | Topeka
