Heavy Rain Swamps Texas; Water Rescues Reported in San Antonio

August 21,2016
Heavy rain swamped parts of south Texas late Saturday into early Sunday, prompting water rescues in several locations, including San Antonio.
Darker purple and red shadings show where the heaviest rain has fallen in Texas, particularly east and south of San Antonio. Blue circles show where flooding has been reported.
A report submitted to the National Weather Service (NWS) said that the San Antonio Fire Department performed two water rescues early Sunday morning in south San Antonio on Bacum Boulevard and Deely Place. A third water rescue occurred later in the morning near Hot Wells and South New Braunfels Avenue, the NWS reported.
Additional water rescues were reported early Sunday morning to the east of San Antonio in Stockdale. Cars stalled in floodwaters also prompted water rescues in Zapata County near the Mexican border.
Multiple road closures have occurred in Bexar, Atascosa and Frio Counties, according to law enforcement.
More than a half foot of rain has fallen in some areas. One location near Gonzales, Texas, saw 11.11 inches of rain in the 24 hours ending 7 a.m. CDT Sunday. More than 9 inches of rain was reported just south-southeast of San Antonio.

Forecast: Drier Conditions Ahead

The heavy rain threat has ended, and there's just the chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm into Monday.
