Tropical Storm Darby Near Hurricane Strength in the Eastern Pacific Ocean

July 13,2016
Tropical Storm Darby is gradually taking the lead as the strongest tropical cyclone of the moment during this latest spurt of eastern Pacific activity.
While not a threat to land, it will become a hurricane soon.
Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
  • Tropical Storm Darby is located just over 550 miles south-southwest of Los Cabos, Mexico.
  • Darby will likely become a hurricane Wednesday and should continue strengthening through Thursday night.
  • Darby will then weaken with farther westward extent from Friday into the weekend, similar to the past three storms (Agatha, Blas, and Celia).
  • Darby is no threat to any land areas at this time for at least the next five days.
