Tropical Storm Celia Is Weakening in the Pacific Ocean; Will Pass North of Hawaii

July 13,2016
Celia weakened to a tropical storm early Wednesday and will continue to wind down slowly over the Pacific Ocean after becoming the basin's second hurricane of the season Sunday.
Like its two predecessors, Celia will not affect land, remaining over the open Pacific waters.
Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
  • Celia's center was located over 1,470 miles west of the southern tip of Baja California.
  • Celia is expected to weaken to a depression, then spin down to a remnant low this weekend.
  • Celia may make it to the longitude of the Hawaiian Islands, but will remain far to the northeast of Hawaii.
  • On average, the season's third storm forms by July 5, according to the National Hurricane Center.
