Tropical Storm Georgette is fading fast far from land over the eastern Pacific Ocean.
Earlier, Georgette was the fourth eastern Pacific hurricane this month, tying a record in that basin for the most hurricanes in July. Then, Georgette rapidly strengthened to a Category 4 hurricane Sunday night.
Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
- Georgette was located about 1,245 miles west of the southern tip of Baja California.
- Rapid weakening is expected over the next two days, thanks to Georgette's movement into an air mass more suppressive for thunderstorms and over cooler water.
- This system is no threat to the U.S. mainland or Mexico.
