Pennsylvania 400: Rain may postpone Pocono NASCAR race for second time this year

Another postponement may be in store at Pocono Raceway as widespread showers and thunderstorms threaten Pennsylvania on Sunday.
Following a hot and dry race last weekend at the Brickyard in Indianapolis, NASCAR fans will head to Long Pond, Pennsylvania, this weekend for what will likely be a stormy, cooler event.
"Sunshine will be nearly invisible for the Pennsylvania 400 as there will be a cloudy, unsettled weather pattern for Sunday's race," AccuWeather Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said.

A storm moving across the Ohio Valley will tap into moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and lead to widespread showers and thunderstorms on Sunday. Those with plans to attend on Sunday will need to bring along rain gear.
The best chance for any showers and thunderstorms will be during the afternoon, which will increase the chances for delays with the race scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
If thunder is heard, seek shelter immediately.
Any peeks of sun will likely occur in the morning.
"Rain delays prior to and during the race are a possibility," Pydynowski said.

With the clouds and rain, highs will top out in the lower 70s F. Highs this time of year in the Poconos are typically in the upper 70s to near 80 F.
Should the race be postponed until Monday, showers and thunderstorms may still linger across eastern Pennsylvania. However, Monday does not look to be a washout.
Rain postponed the Axalta ‘We Paint Winners' 400 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday, June 5. Over 0.50 of an inch of rain fell in the Poconos with highs stuck in the 60s. Drier and warmer weather on Monday, June 6, allowed the race to go on.
