Hurricane Celia will begin a steady weakening phase in the eastern Pacific Ocean after becoming the basin's second hurricane of the season Sunday.
Like its two predecessors, Celia will not affect land, remaining over the open Pacific waters.
Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
- Celia's center was located just under 1,300 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California.
- Celia may weaken to a tropical storm in the next day or so, then a depression later this week.
- The track of Celia will remain far to the northeast of Hawaii.
- On average, the season's third storm forms by July 5, according to the National Hurricane Center.
