Cumbria braces for more flooding as rain soaks the UK into Boxing Day

A storm system will deliver another round of rain to much of the United Kingdom on Christmas Day with some areas remaining wet right through Boxing Day.
Right on the heels of Storm Eva, this new threat will bring heavier rainfall, but less wind than its predecessor.
Rain will spread over southwest England and Wales Christmas morning, becoming steadier and heavier during the afternoon as it reaches Northern Ireland and northern England.

Farther east, there will be a few showers across the East Midlands, East of England and Greater London, but the steady rain will remain to the north and west.
Rainfall is expected to move into flood-stricken Cumbria by midday and increase in intensity during the afternoon.

Emergency crews help out as new floods hit Cumbria

A moderate to at times heavy rain will develop from northern Wales into Cumbria on Christmas night with additional downpours lasting into Boxing Day.
"This heavy rainfall will total 50-100 mm (2-4 inches) with local amounts up to 150 mm (6 inches)," according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys.

"The ongoing flooding problems will worsen and become more widespread across the region through Saturday," Roys added.
While rain will dampen the day across Wales, northern England and Scotland, dry and mild weather awaits the south and east of England on Boxing Day.

High temperatures will soar to 13-14 C (55-58 F). The normal high in London is 6.7 C (44.0 F) for the end of December.
A continued stormy weather pattern will result in additional rounds of rain for Cumbria and much of the United Kingdom next week continuing the threat for flooding problems.
