Following days of flooding rain and gusty winds from Storm Frank, storms will continue to bring spells of rain that will exacerbate the flooding across the United Kingdom.
Storm Frank unleashed heavy rain and gusty winds across much of the British Isles. Some of the highest wind gusts on Tuesday and Wednesday occurred in Scotland. A wind gust of 85 mph (137 km/h) was measured on the Island of South Uist.
In the wake of Storm Frank, the stormy pattern will continue across the British Isles.
Two separate storms will pass over the United Kingdom during the weekend; the first storm will push through Friday night into Saturday, then a second storm will arrive on Sunday.
According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys, "Total rainfall throughout the United Kingdom this weekend will generally be 5-25 mm (0.20-1.00 inch)."
However, the passing of two storms will bring heavier rain to Scotland, northwestern England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
"These areas could get as much as 25-75 mm (1-3 inches), before the end of the weekend," Roys added. "The heaviest rain will likely be with the second system on Sunday."
Because of the frequent storms over the United Kingdom, many places have been dealing with reoccurring flooding.
On Thursday, the UK Met office announced that Wales and Scotland are about to conclude their wettest December on record.
Three named storms passing over the United Kingdom during the month of December helped to achieve the hefty rainfall amounts.

Eva and Frank rounded out the month to become the fifth and sixth named storms of the season.
Wind speeds during the first weekend of the new year are likely to remain much lower than they were with Storm Frank while some gusts along southern facing coastlines of southwestern England could reach 40 mph (about 65 km/h) on Saturday.
On Sunday, the north side of the storm will heave the strongest winds, producing gusts to 40 mph (65 km/h) in northeastern England and eastern Scotland.
