While this week will start out feeling more like December around Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, a warming trend will give way to a mild Thanksgiving Day.
The coldest air so far this season will descend into the nation's capital and Maryland early this week, holding high temperatures to the 40s on Monday. A freeze will follow at night. The chill will only ease slightly for Tuesday.
Cold Blast Across the Northeast
A high in the middle to lower 50s is more common this time of year. Highs in the 40s are normal for December.

As the high pressure ushering in the cold air shifts eastward, the door will open for milder air to pour in and commence a warming trend for Wednesday and Thursday.
For Thanksgiving Day, temperatures are expected to rise into the 60s for a high that is more typical for late October.

In fact, this Thanksgiving Day should be warmer than Halloween was. Those heading outside to their holiday dinner destinations or shopping will not have to worry about bundling up.
The same high pressure leading to the downs and ups of temperatures will also keep rain and snow away from the area Monday through Thanksgiving Day. That is definitely good news for holiday travelers.
