The temblors, magnitudes 6.9 and 6.8, occurred about an hour apart between 10:50 and 11:50 p.m. local time Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey. Both earthquakes were centered about 90 kilometers northwest of Coquimbo, Chile.
Between the two larger quakes, two others -- magnitudes 5.1 and 4.9 -- were felt in Chile, the USGS said.
The earthquakes were aftershocks of the magnitude-8.3 earthquake that struck on Sept. 16, 2015. At least 13 people were killed as a result of that earthquake.
