Two powerful aftershocks struck Chile late Tuesday evening.
The temblors, magnitudes 6.9 and 6.8, occurred about an hour apart between 10:50 and 11:50 p.m. local time Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey. Both earthquakes were centered about 90 kilometers northwest of Coquimbo, Chile.
Preliminarily, there were no reports of damage or injuries from the region, the Chilean government said.
Between the two larger quakes, two others -- magnitudes 5.1 and 4.9 -- were felt in Chile, the USGS said.
The earthquakes were aftershocks of the magnitude-8.3 earthquake that struck on Sept. 16, 2015. At least 13 people were killed as a result of that earthquake.
