Here's the US National Weather Summary for Monday,October 1,2012,as of 10:30PM,EDT/ 7:30PM,PDT,October 1,2012,from weatherunderground.com,enjoy:

The main weather producer in the country Monday was a strong storm that began the day over Louisiana before moving northeastward into Mississippi and Tennessee. This storm contained enough moisture to produce scattered, but widespread rain and thunderstorms through the Southeast. Tornado Watches were posted for parts of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee due to the possibility of severe weather into the afternoon. At least one tornado had already formed in South Carolina, and more were possible. Residents through the Southeast should monitor the progress of any local thunderstorms for potential severity.

Meanwhile, a cold front moved into the Intermountain West and Northern Plains, where light to moderate rain fell as far south as Kansas. This moisture diminished into the afternoon as the front moved southward.

Dry conditions spread through the Northeast as a storm departed New England and moved into eastern Canada.

Dry and warm conditions continued in the West as a high pressure ridge remained anchored over the West Coast. Well above normal afternoon temperatures added to a warm period as inland temperatures once again rose into the triple digits. With more warm weather expected Tuesday, many areas of California will have very high fire danger.

The Northeast rose into the 60s and 70s, while the Southeast saw temperatures in the 70s and 80s. The Southwest rose into the 80s, 90s, and some 100s, while the Northwest saw temperatures in the 60s and 70s.
