Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,October 13,2016

A wet weather pattern will impact the Northwest on Thursday, while a cold frontal boundary shifts across the eastern half of the country.

A low pressure system will move east northeastward across the Pacific Northwest. A plume of moisture will move onshore ahead of this system, which will lead to moderate to heavy rain and mountain snow across the Pacific Northwest and the upper Intermountain West. As the low pressure system shifts over the West Coast, moderate to heavy rain will spread east and southward over northern California. Flash flooding will be possible in southwest Oregon and northwest California. Flash flood watches will be issued for northern California during Thursday afternoon.

To the east, a cold frontal boundary will extend south southwestward across the eastern Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley, the Tennessee Valley, the lower Mississippi Valley and the southern Plains. As this frontal boundary transitions eastward, it will generate showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Northeast, the central Appalachians, the eastern Ohio Valley, the Tennessee Valley, the lower Mississippi Valley and the southern Plains. There will also be chances for high elevation snow in the central and southern Rockies.

High pressure will build northwest of the cold frontal boundary. This high pressure system will bring cool and dry weather to the northern Plains, the Midwest and northwest New England. Temperatures will drop 5 to 15 degrees below normal over a handful of states on Thursday.
