The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. EDT Thursday night as the plane attempted a landing at the airport, which had experienced delays and even a few cancellations due to rainy weather in New York City. The plane made a rough landing and mud splashed on the cockpit's front windows, Pence told the Associated Press.
"Moderate rain and occasionally breezy weather was occurring during the 7 p.m. hour at LaGuardia Airport," said weather.com meteorologist Jonathan Belles. "Rain has been ongoing at the airport since late morning. Visibility was also lowered to around 3 miles."

**Everyone is okay, including the candidate -- but the Pence campaign plane slid off runway upon landing at LaGuardia
Pence tweeted earlier in the evening that their plane was unable to take off from Iowa because of a ground stop at LaGuardia.
A ground hold at Laguardia led to some football on the tarmac in Iowa. #GameOn
