Strong earthquake injures 7 in western Japan

At least seven people were injured when a powerful earthquake struck western Japan on Friday afternoon.
The earthquake occurred 8.5 km (5.3 miles) south of Kurayoshi, Japan, at 2:07 p.m. JST Friday (1:07 a.m. EDT).
The USGS labeled the earthquake with a 6.2 magnitude, while the Japan Meteorological Agency declared the earthquake to have a 6.6 magnitude.

No widespread damage has been reported, according to the Associated Press. However, at least two homes collapsed and roof tiles were knocked loose.
At least seven people were injured, one seriously.

One woman was reportedly taken to the hospital after being splashed by oil. She was cooking in a restaurant when the earthquake struck.
Roughly 32,000 homes lost power for a time, the Associated Press reported.
The weather will aid in cleanup efforts through most of this weekend.
Despite numerous clouds, Saturday will be dry with a high of 20 C (68 F) expected.
A shower or two will return on Sunday. However, any rainfall will be brief and light. Sunday's temperatures will be held just shy of Saturday's high.
The earthquake area will escape rounds of downpours set to target Kyushu this weekend. Haima will be responsible for Sunday's heavy rain, but it will be non-tropical at that time.
