Hurricane Lester, the 12th named storm and 6th hurricane of the eastern Pacific hurricane season, continues to intensify. Lester is now a Category 2 hurricane.
This hurricane is no threat to any land areas at this time, but may end up making a run toward the Hawaiian Islands next week.
Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
- Hurricane Lester was located around 780 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, as of Saturday evening.
- Lester is moving west, and should continue doing so for the next five days.
- This new system is no threat to any land areas at this time.
- However, Lester may push in the general direction of the Hawaiian Islands by Labor Day weekend.
- It's far too soon to say if Lester will be a significant threat to Hawaii. The majority of tropical cyclones approaching Hawaii from the east weaken before arriving.
