A
cold frontal boundary will extend from the southern Plains to the
Northeast on Wednesday, while a separate cold front will move across the
northwestern corner of the country.
A cold front will extend across the southern Plains, the lower Mississippi Valley, the Tennessee Valley, the northern Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast on Wednesday. A warm, humid air mass from the Gulf of Mexico will interact with this cold front to initiate widespread showers and thunderstorms. Stormy weather will develop ahead of this frontal boundary over the southern Plains, the lower Mississippi Valley, the central and eastern Gulf Coast, the Southeast, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. High pressure will keep conditions mostly clear across the Ohio Valley, the western Great Lakes and the upper Mississippi Valley.
Meanwhile, monsoonal moisture will continue to initiate scattered showers and thunderstorms over the Intermountain West, the Great Basin and parts of the Desert Southwest. These thunderstorms will bring a threat of flash flooding to valleys adjacent to sloped terrain.
A separate cold front is forecast to move across the northwestern corner of the country on Wednesday. Little to no precipitation will accompany this frontal boundary as it inches across the Pacific Northwest. A large ridge of high pressure will dominate the West Coast, which will keep conditions warm and dry across the region. Temperatures are forecast to jump into the triple digits across much of the Southwest. .
