Severe thunderstorms from Canada and the northern Plains will shift into the Midwest and Ohio Valley in time for the weekend.
The same system in southern Canada that created strong to severe thunderstorms across Alberta and Saskatchewan will extend farther south and into the northern Plains.
After some gusty storms moved through North Dakota Thursday morning, thunderstorms continued into the evening hours.
Through the end of the week, the center of the storm will head towards the Great Lakes.
On Friday, thunderstorms will stretch from Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin to Indianapolis by the end of the day. For the most part, these storms are not likely to be severe, but they could contain some locally strong wind gusts, especially around the Chicago area Friday night.

The system does, however, look to regroup late Saturday as the low from Canada dives into the northern Great Lakes.
Thunderstorms during the daylight hours on Saturday will be typical summertime storms. However, as the sun sets on Saturday, strong to severe storms will erupt.
Saturday night and through Sunday, thunderstorms right along the jet stream will be firing and could potentially be severe. From Illinois and Indiana into Michigan and the Ohio Valley could contain heavy rain and potentially some gusty winds for second half of the weekend.
