Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, July 8,2014

A cold frontal boundary will extend from the southern Plains to the upper Midwest on Tuesday, while a ridge of high pressure will build over the Intermountain West.

A cold front will stretch across the southern Plains, the middle Mississippi Valley and the upper Midwest on Tuesday. As warm, muggy air collides with this frontal boundary, widespread strong to severe thunderstorms will develop over the eastern third of the country. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over northern Arkansas, southern Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, southern Illinois, southern Indiana, southeast Ohio, northwest Virginia, West Virginia, western Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York and Vermont. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, disorganized showers and thunderstorms will move across parts of the upper Mississippi Valley and the Great Lakes.

Meanwhile, an onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the Gulf Coast, while sea-breeze induced thunderstorms will affect portions of Florida. The remainder of the Deep South will stay warm and dry.

Monsoonal moisture will continue to initiate thunderstorms across the Desert Southwest on Tuesday. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing heavy rain, which will bring a threat of flash flooding to valleys adjacent to sloped terrain. High pressure will keep the West Coast, the Pacific Northwest and the upper Intermountain West clear of precipitation.
