While the week started off on a cool and unsettled note around Pittsburgh, temperatures will flirt with summerlike levels during the second half of the week.
Cool air will sound the retreat into Wednesday.
During the transition, spotty showers and thunderstorms will affect the area.
However, by Thursday, highs in the 80s will be common across much of western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and western Maryland.

Cool air is expected to be bottled up farther to the north and east over the mid-Atlantic.
Temperatures will stop short of record levels. Record highs rare in the upper 80s to low 90s this time of the year around Pittsburgh.
The warm weather should stick around into the weekend, although temperatures will ease back a bit due to more extensive cloud cover and the chance of showers and thunderstorms.
