Drenching, Gusty Storm Threat to Continue in East Thursday

Lingering moisture will allow another round of locally drenching, gusty thunderstorms along part of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts on Thursday.
While widespread severe weather is not expected, there is still the potential for a few thunderstorms to bring strong winds, hail, frequent lightning strikes and flash flooding to portions of Florida, the eastern part of the Carolinas and southeastern Virginia.
Cities that have the chance of experiencing heavy, gusty thunderstorms, including localized severe weather on Thursday include Charleston, South Carolina; Raleigh, North Carolina; Norfolk, Virginia; and Jacksonville, Tallahassee and Tampa, Florida.

Due to saturated ground and some streams still above flood stage, any additional rainfall can lead to rapid runoff and additional flooding problems in the Eastern states on Thursday.
The steadiest rain will lift northeastward across New England during the midday hours. However, spotty downpours may redevelop during the afternoon in coastal areas from the mid-Atlantic through New England.

Spotty, locally drenching downpours will affect areas around Richmond, Virginia, to Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, Providence, Rhode Island, and Boston Thursday afternoon and evening.
A pocket of showers and drenching thunderstorms will continue to pester part of the Deep South right into Saturday. Some of the rain will target areas hit hard by flooding at midweek.

There is the potential for localized flooding downpours will exist in portions of Florida and southeastern Georgia and could reach into coastal areas of the Carolinas and part of southern Alabama.
Spotty light showers will riddle the Midwest and will spread into the Northeast through this weekend. The weekend showers will not aggravate flooding issues but can be an annoyance for folks with outdoor activities.
