A pocket of cool air will yield to summerlike warmth by this weekend around Washington, D.C., but showers and thunderstorms will come calling.
An area of high pressure off the mid-Atlantic coast will keep cool air nearby through Wednesday, but during Thursday, warmth is likely to push in from the southwest.
The advancing warm air can produced spotty shower and thunderstorm activity Wednesday to Thursday.
Southwesterly winds develop by the weekend and will allow warm, rather humid air to take over.
High temperatures each day Thursday through Mother's Day will be in the 80s.
The combination of warm, humid air and a slowly advancing storm from the Plains will bring more numerous showers and thunderstorms over the weekend. There is the potential for locally heavy rain and incidents of flash and urban flooding amidst a few episodes of rain-free weather.
